Coach Lovie Smith's final season as Illinois' head coach in 2020 was played during the COVID pandemic, in front of basically empty stadiums. The team's only two victories were in back-to-back games at Rutgers and at Nebraska. Offensive lineman Kendrick Green, defensive lineman Owen Carney and linebacker Jake Hansen all earned All-Big Ten honors.
