The 2000 Illini football team finished with a disappointing 5-6 record after beginning the season with three consecutive wins. Narrow losses to nationally ranked Michigan and Ohio State added to its frustration. Illinois captains Ray Redziniak, Muhammad Abdullah, Bobby Jackson and Fred Wakefield were joined by all-stars Marques Sullivan, Danny Clark, Luke Butkus, Steve Fitts, Robert Franklin, Rocky Harvey, Josh Whitman and Eugene Wilson.
